Auditor Dave Yost Receives National Recognition

Tuesday, May 3, 2016

Washington, D.C. – Commending him for his “bold recommendations” to improve the governance over Ohio’s charter schools, the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools today named Ohio Auditor Dave Yost as one of its 10 “charter school champions.”

Yost offered key recommendations to House Bill 2, landmark legislation passed by the Ohio General Assembly and signed into law by Gov. John Kasich last year, that improved oversight and accountability for charter schools.

“A strong supporter of school choice, Auditor Yost made several bold recommendations to improve Ohio’s accountability, transparency, governance and fair funding of charter schools during legislative committee hearings,” the organization said.

“It’s an honor to be recognized with some of our nation’s foremost charter school leaders,” Auditor Yost said. “These are people who share a common agenda: Provide our children with options that allow them to thrive.”

Others receiving recognition include two U.S. senators, the governor of Massachusetts, the mayor of Dallas and members of state legislatures – including state Sen. Peggy Lehner (R-Kettering), who was recognized by the organization for her work on the charter reform legislation.

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools has recognized individuals for the past decade. “We celebrate the courage and persistence of lawmakers who make charter public schools a reality for parents and students in communities across the nation,” said Nina Rees, president and CEO of the organization.
