Kentucky Nurse Owes Ohio Medicaid $219,000

Thursday, December 5, 2013

Columbus – No response and no documentation left auditors unable to express an opinion regarding licensed practical nurse Candy Cain’s compliance with Medicaid regulations, according to an audit released today by Auditor of State Dave Yost.

“You can’t ignore your responsibilities to the taxpayers,” Auditor Yost said. “That is the quickest way to forfeit your paycheck.”

On August 5, 2013, an engagement letter was sent to Cain, notifying her of the audit. A second request was sent on August 20, 2013 for documentation to support services rendered. Cain did not respond to the audit notification or to the request for documentation.

Without supporting documentation, auditors identified 100 percent of all paid services during the period of January 1, 2010 through December 31, 2011 as an overpayment.

Auditors identified that Cain was overpaid by $207,664.86. With interest in the amount of $11,926.51, the total amount owed to Ohio Medicaid is $219,591.37.
